Native Narrative was commissioned to design a 10 SQM transportable sauna unit that our Danish client, a collective of Ice bath enthusiasts, could move to different spots around the most southern coastlines of Denmark. The sauna fits 8-10 people. The great interest in the mobile sauna made us setup Scandinavian Sauna as a separate company, which is now selling mobile saunas all over Europe.

The sauna works without an electricity connection, it’s, therefore, wood-heated while LED lighting is provided by a chargeable battery. Once fully charge is providing approx. 60-70 hours of L.E.D lighting in the changing area as well as in the heated sauna area. The colour and intensity of the L.E.D light can be adjusted with a dimmer panel. A ramp is making accessibility easier for elder users.

It was essential to integrate a changing area with coat hangers, this space also works as a "buffer zone" which reduces heat-loss once the main door is open.
Another important element for our client was to design the sauna unit so that it would ‘belong to the built context in the local area’. The exterior cladding is larch, while the interior cladding is Scandinavian Spruce. The seating is constructed in Asp, which makes the seats less warm and more comfortable to sit on.
